The coronavirus hit us harder than anyone could have expected. It impacted almost every aspect of our everyday life, imposing social distancing and self-isolation. At least, now we all would have the time to tackle the boredom by watching out favorite shows which would keep us entertained through this nightmare. Or so we thought…
COVID 19 did not take mercy on the world of TV.
Here is a list of some of my favorite shows that got impacted by the pandemic…
1. Grey’s Anatomy

Although I have already shared with you my opinion that this show should have come to an end a few seasons ago, I still do watch it from time to time. Yes, I don’t like the fact that the original concept of medical drama is almost lost and there are way too many episodes focused on the personal lives of the characters. But there are some hard core Grey fans out there who for sure were not happy that the number of episodes of season 16 was cut from 25 to 21 only.
An episode called Put on a Happy Face served as the season finale on April 9 after production was shut down in response to coronavirus crisis. And though it looked like kind of a closure we could have still hoped for something better. According to rumors, a major character was supposed to die in explosion in the end of the season. On the bright side, may be he is saved now that the show has wrapped up early…
2. New Amsterdam

Another medical drama that we could have seen more of. New Amsterdam got hit especially hard by the coronavirus pandemic with recurring guest star Daniel Dae Kim testing positive for COVID 19 and a writer and three crew members getting sick. An episode called Pandemic was pulled from the program as it was way too similar to the events happening at the moment. Also, instead of the originally planned 22 episodes, we only saw 18. I am sad to say that the episode that served as finale did not feel like one at all.
3. Nancy Drew

OK, that is one of the shows I got really sad about. Although I did not like the firs episodes too much and stopped watching it, I returned to the show during self-isolation and got pretty much obsessed with it. If you have not watched it yet, it is a supernatural mystery that keeps you on your toes and leaves you hungry for more.
Unfortunately, due to the corona, production got suspended and instead of 22 episodes the show had only 18. The good news is that The Clue in the Captain’s Painting felt like a finale of sorts. But if it was me I would have ended the show after episode 16 – The Haunting of Nancy Drew. In this one the main mystery of the season was solved and it really gave the story the closure we needed.
4. Legacies

Yet another show that was forced to halt production early and was not able to finish filming its season. Episode 16 served as the “Spring Finale” and fans were promised to see the rest as soon as the cast is able to go back to work.
Here things can go two ways – we might see some more episodes during the summer or go straight to the beginning of Season 3. There is nothing official yet, but the cliffhanger we were presented with was good enough for season finale – both Hope and Landon are unable to wake up.
5. Supernatural

Although I have watched only the first two seasons of Supernatural, I know how excited fans were about the upcoming ending of the series. COVID 19 took that from them by making the filming of the final episodes impossible.
The series finale, that was supposed to air on May 18, was postponed indefinitely. The showrunner announced that the show has finished production on 18 of the originally scheduled 20 episodes, but the post-production process could not be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak. Despite that he promises that cast and crew are determined to film and air the unproduced episodes with its proper finale. Which, at least, is a good news for fans.
Other Shows
The shows that I mentioned above are just the once I was the most upset to see unfinished. Many other productions also got shorter seasons or were unable to continue productions due to COVID 19. Here is a short list of some of them:
- Fargo
- Carnival Row
- Handmaid’s Tale
- The Bachelorette
- Young Sheldon
- The Resident
- The Flash
- The Walking Dead
- Stranger Things
- Fear the Walking Dead
- NCIS franchise
Even one of the longest running TV shows in American history – The Bold and the Beautiful, suspended production due to coronavirus. We can only hope that things will go back to normal soon and we will get back our beloved shows. Meanwhile, there are enough series left on Netflix to get us through the remaining par of self isolation…
