Little Kook: The Most Magical Place in Athens

There is no doubt Athens is one of my favourite cities. The place is definitely full oh history and culture and can provide a little bit of something for everyone. There is one cafe here, though, that stole my heart like no other – the Little Kook – a place every hard-core Disney fan should visit.

The outside part is my preferred place to sit during the summer

Imagine a whole magical world in the heart of Athens. Located in the downtown near Monastiraki and Ermou, this coffee shop looks like it has just jumped out of the pages of a story book. Colorful umbrellas (for Halloween they were black) are hanging over the entire street in front of the shop. There is not only the cafe itself, but also an ice cream kiosk that belongs to it. And every window on the way is decorated in the theme Little Kook has chosen. The first time when I visited years ago, it was “Circus”, this summer – “Mary Poppins”. And for every major holiday like Christmas or Halloween they do a matching new attire not only on the outside, but on the inside, as well!

The beanstalk is ready to be climbed

With its iconic dragon on the roof, Little Kook houses different fairy tales from Jack and the Beanstalk (there is an actual beanstalk going from the first to the second floor) to my favorite Alice in Wonderland which has a separate room dedicated to the book . I just adore the beautiful Cinderella carriage outside and I consider it one of the most instagrammable hotspots in Athens. And the Halloween-teamed decoration this year was the BOMB! It not only made me forget Covid-19, but the fact I am not living in Halloween town from The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well.

If you have a sweet tooth, this Violet cake is the treat for you 🙂

But if you are not tempted to go just to take a look at all of that lavish decor, you would definitely wanna try the AMAZING menu! It can make a diabetic cry with its original cakes that I have not seen or tasted anywhere else. At first glance the price of 7-8 euros per piece may look a little bit steep, but, trust me, it is totally worth it in the end. The pieces are so enormous and sweet that if you are two people, I would recommend to take just one. The chocolate frosties are to die for – and come with a delicious doughnut on top!

The menu design changes in accordance with the holidays

If we have to look for a fault, it is not with the staff, either. Every time I go, the servers are extremely nice and smiley and do not mind my ton of questions about the menu. They are also dressed according to the current team, which makes Little Kook even more magical. Talking about magical, even the hand sanitizer in the wash room smells like candy!

Vibing with the Halloween decoration

When I first visited Little Kook in 2015 they have just opened. I liked it so much that I have recommended it to all my friends who have visited Athens since then. And I did not think the place can get any better. But somehow, it has. It evolved through the years and became this iconic, whimsical universe of its own. So if you want to feel like a part of a fairy tale even for an hour, there is no better place to go!
